What are the signs of a lax pelvic floor?
Spotting a loss of pelvic floor tone early helps prevent urinary and intimate symptoms from getting worse. If you notice functional symptoms on a daily basis, this is the first sign of muscle weakness:
- Stress incontinence: involuntary urine leaks occur when you sneeze, laugh, cough, or make physical effort.
- Urge incontinence: sudden, urgent needs to urinate happen frequently, both day and night.
- Pelvic heaviness: a feeling of heaviness or an uncomfortable foreign-body sensation appears in the vagina.
- Vaginal laxity: reduced sensation occurs during intercourse, sometimes accompanied by vaginal air.
- Evacuation difficulties: chronic constipation or uncontrolled gas leakage signal anal weakness.
- Pelvic pain: painful tension radiates into the lower abdomen, reflecting compensatory muscle overactivity.
