Discover a very special testimony, Emy allowed Elisa to continue playing sport despite her illness.

We can never repeat it enough but all women can be affected by problems related to their perineum. It doesn’t matter their age, their physical condition, their weight. Whether they are going through menopause or have one or more children.

We were contacted some time ago on Instagram by Elisa who explained to us that she was won over by Emily. Thanks to the probe, she felt her perineum stronger and therefore she could continue to play sports. You will tell us “Yes, ok like the other users who testify on your blog!”

So yes and no… Elisa is 27 years old, she suffers from an illness, Ehlers Danlos syndrome. A rare genetic disease that affects the connective tissue and affects the body and particularly its muscles and joints.

We are very happy that she agreed to testify in order to continue to lift the taboo on this sacred perineum!

Elisa, can you tell us about your illness?

My illness is named after “Ehler Danlos syndrome". It's a rare and genetic disease which affects collagen production. This protein gives elasticity and strength to connective tissues such as skin, tendons, and muscles in general.

How did it all start for you?

This disease started during my adolescence but it started 3-4 years ago. This is a disease very difficult to diagnose. It takes about 10 years logically. The doctors I saw took care of my problems one after the other even though it was just one problem.

The disease manifests itself as hyperlaxity. That is to say that as soon as I raise my arms I dislocate my shoulders. Furthermore, I have a delay in proprioception. To explain, imagine you have to walk across a room and reach an open door. Your brain will send the order to your limbs to pass through the middle of the door frame. In “SED” (people with this disease), the brain has difficulty locating the body in space.

How does the disease progress?

Doctors say it is not a progressive disease. But we realize that this is unfortunately the case. The more time passes, the less I can write. I think after a while I won't be able to do it anymore. You should know that the invalid illness and that you can very quickly find yourself in a wheelchair.
This is why I decided to do a lot of sport. Today, I do triathlon, this sport allows me to achieve and keep a goal in mind.

Of course, there are still ups and downs. I sometimes have seizures. There are times when I can't do it anymore and I don't go to the club anymore. But it passes and afterward I feel better.

It's not easy to do sports in my case because it's rare to be able to do it. When I introduce myself in specific Facebook groups, some people think I'm not really sick. For them, I shouldn't be able to do everything I do today. And that’s when I tell myself that after all I’m very lucky.

And how did you come to care about your perineum?

My perineum is looser than normal. You should know that originally, I didn't even know what a perineum was. During my Pilates classes, I was told “contract your perineum”! Except that I was wondering where this “thing” could be! 🙂
At the level of the perineum for example, when we sneeze, we have the reflex to contract the perineum. Except that I have it too late (related to my proprioception problem) which causes my perineum to contract once I have finished sneezing.

Until then I had never had any problems. The specialists who take care of me often asked me if I had ever had problems with my perineum. I answered “no” since I didn’t know what it was. The other problem is that I do a lot of abs. I do 250 crunches in one go and it’s not very good for the perineum especially when you don't contract it... So I started to have the feeling that I was going to get pee on. One day, during my scales (jumps, jumps) I said to myself: “well, this is all a bit embarrassing… We’re going to have to do something. »

And then I remembered what I was told at the hospital. That in my case, I had a much greater risk of having organ descent. So I talked to my physiotherapist who has followed me for years. She couldn't take care of it because she wasn't specialized in perineology.

So I went to see another great physiotherapist, this time specializing in perineal rehabilitation. She re-educated me manually and then with a probe. She really taught me what perineum.

The problem is that I had 3 months of sessions with her and then we took a break. I had to continue my sessions at home and that's where I found Emy. Emy made this feeling of escape disappear and made it easier for me to practice sport despite my illness. You should know that I have been seeing physiotherapists for 12 years, 2-3 times a week. To which you add other appointments with doctors. You can imagine that all this is really heavy and takes time. Emy’s discovery allowed me to save precious time.

How did you know Emy?

I have an account on Instagram dedicated to sport and I follow accounts of people I like. I am the account “This Perfect Day” who talked about the probe that I didn't know about. So I went to see your site and found it good. Emy could be my solution to continue sport and avoid leaks linked to my illness. In the end, it was my partner who convinced me to buy it. He told me that it would save me from going to my physiotherapist and that I could do my rehabilitation at home and at my own pace.

So I received it a month ago and now I'm doing what you could call maintenance.

At first it was a bit laborious. I felt like I wasn't necessarily progressing. But for some time now I have seen the difference and it is getting easier and easier.

Now when I sneeze I am no longer wary of having leaks. The reflex of contraction of my perineum was put in place. I think I'll pay attention to my perineum for the rest of my life now.

Can you summarize Emy in a few words?

I thought that if we didn't have no children, we could not use the probe. But actually not at all! Have this wireless probe at home it’s really practical. Regardless of my illness, I found in Emy an ally to continue sport. Of course it is a cost but my peace of mind is priceless. If everyone could invent stuff like this, it would make people's lives a lot easier.

In the end I am very happy with the probe. It's small, you can take it when traveling, it's super fun and nice.
